Film & Foil Slitting Knife Selection
Film and foil converting can involve razor, shear or score slitting. These methods use different cutting actions and tooling. Rough edges, dust or tearing can come from blade wear, incorrect geometry, web tension or machine setup.
For circular slitter knives, identify the upper or lower knife and compare OD, bore, thickness, profile and mating tool with the approved drawing. A razor-slitting machine may instead use a straight replaceable blade. See our slitting methods guide for the distinction.
Edge finish and material grade should be selected for the web, cutting method and operating conditions. Neither a polished edge nor a particular steel guarantees slit quality at every line speed.
